While staying in Fredericksburg, we visited the immensely popular Enchanted Rock. Actually, I knew nothing about it until Steve told me how all the reviews were just awesome, and on nice weather days on the weekends or summer, it can actually fill up and you can't get in! Fortunately for us, it was a nice weather day, and there was plenty of parking and room up on the rock! Parts of the hike up are rather steep, especially if you have a baby in tow. When we got to the top, we were rewarded with a 360 degree view and plenty of sunshine! The girls played chase and hike and seek, too. And no, there aren't many places to hide up there, but when you're three, that just doesn't matter! We basked in the sunshine for awhile. Good thing we did since there wouldn't be much more of it in the forecast for awhile! It was fascinating that you could hear conversations of others', word for word, when you couldn't even see them! Sounds carry very well on this large rock! This was definitely worth a stop, although I admit that I would steer clear if it were a day when it was super crowded. Part of its charm was not having to deal with big crowds.

The trail up the rock, the temps were in the low 70s and felt great |
The climb was nearly 500 feet vertical |
There is no trail really, you can walk up the rock in any direction |
We loved being in shorts in winter |

It was tough to balance that big rock on her head, but Alyssa was determined. |
A cool spot to rest before tackling the final climb to the top |
